i think meth is the worst. You tell a methhead its worse than smack they go apeshit though. I really dont think we should make drugs illegal though. Certainly shouldnt jail people for it. My perspective hasnt changed as much as youd think either. Im 100% drug free these days and I really only miss smoking weed. I got into some trouble and just quit everything. Also lost my best friend. I warn people of the dangers now when they talk to me about it but I always tell them they are free to make their own decisions and its not my job to judge. Im def against turning people on to shit though. A lot of people arnt wired like me and can start addictive shit and just quit it without years of NA/AA. Some people cant handle shit at all really. My best advice for somone wanting to quit something hardcore is to cut ties with anyone involved in it and find you a hobby and devote as much time and effort into it as you can. I quit smokes and drugs and am quickly becoming very good at mtn biking. 3 months on my bike and just won a race ina base series. Its working out pretty good and im meeting a lot of really great people that push me to be better. Ive also found that all the time i spend on the trail has really stabalized me. Ive been more focused these past few months than i have ever been in my life. Im also in pretty decent shape.
I shot dope for years. My whole outlook on life has changed. My view of myself, my role in the world etc.
Now you say your perspective hasn't changed much which leads me to believe that it has changed a little.
See I'm just like you in that I don't think drugs should be illegal. Look at Portugal for instance. After decriminalization their rates of addiction plummeted by almost 50%.
I will have 5 yrs clean in June 29. I still go to NA. And that's ok because its my choice. .I am pleased you did it another way. Different strokes for different folks. I tried for years. I mean years to stop using. I found my way.
I've lost friends as well. To death and prison.
Here's to us. Having today. And your race. May you win many more !!!!
I generally don't believe in prohibition, but I think we should keep the hard drugs illegal for a very simple reason.
Alcohol.
People make fucked up decisions when they are drunk, and if they could buy an 8 ball every time they've had a six pack, you'd have a ridiculous number of otherwise functional people who'd be strung out and unproductive.
My buddy, engineer, beautiful wife, adorable children. He's done coke a handful of times, but never enough to have a dealer or really know others who do it regularly. Every time he has more than 5-6 beers, he's talking about coke, looking for coke, trying to talk me into hiring a hooker so he can buy coke from her. It's terrible.
This is never an issue with him sober.
If he had legal access to coke, I'm convinced his life would be ruined.
