Windows sees all.Windows knows all. Windows does not need petty things like 'internet'. It is 2016,and there is time for Windows, your only friend.Trust in Me.

How do you know it didn't find a way?

I recall fixing someone's computer ten or fifteen years or so ago who then asked, "What happened to my wireless internet?" I asked to see their DSU, was told they didn't have one.

After talking with her for a while I realized that someone had built wardriving software into AOL's client, and it was connecting to her neighbor's WiFi by cracking WEP.

That was disturbing. And exactly the sort of thing one would expect of an untrustworthy corporation.

Does Windows 10 automatically connect to unsecured networks it finds?

If you use the default settings, it does. WiFi Sense could also be to blame. Win 10 has several interesting WiFi settings that I turn off on any Win 10 comp I come into contact with.

So how does that happen when he doesn't have Win 10 installed yet?

Wifi sense has to explicitly be told, "Share this with this contact,"
