I refuse to believe this is from 1929! But seriously, this is so outside the box from what I'm used to from that era. I'm glad we had pioneers like this to push the envelope. Did the French roughly follow Hollywood after codes were enforced in 1934?

Haha I'm sure Dali had a lot to do with why it was so beyond its time as well.

That's a good question. I'm not entirely sure, but I thought it was only America that really followed the code until it was replaced with the mpaa like 30 years later. I'm pretty sure controversial foreign films and directors played a part in the code needing to be replaced as well. The only restrictions I'm aware of in French film was pretty harsh anti-porn laws that weren't abolished until 1975. If you find out for sure, let me know, I'd definitely be interested to know for sure.
