For anybody that didn't play the original SPAZ is a surprisingly awesome game. The original is a free roam overhead 2D blow-stuff-up game. The appeal is in building up your ship/fleet paired with just really excellently implemented and balanced combat. You can make the same ship a huge hit and run stealth lasers ship that overloads its energy after a single shot, a fleet missile ship, or maybe an tank of a cannon ship. And pair that flexibility with tons of different types of ships and a skill tree that dramatically changes the way your ships perform. Good stuff.

The ship design/part loot mechanic has potential. The 3D rendering looks to be a significant step up from the last game. The flapping flags in the vacuum of space just seems to be deliberately goofy, though. If it can stand up to Starsector, I'll be happy.
