Here's Why.

It bothers me that people already feel it needs an explanation.

Yes. And it's becoming more and more common in classes, especially media classes like literature.

It depends on the school. It's a trend at only a small handful of ultra-liberal institutions, and is in no way widespread. It's spreading though, like a slow cancer.

edit: I live in the south and have a loose network of friends throughout southern academia. They assure me that a request for "trigger warnings" would be met with a smirk at best and being embarrassed in front of the class at worst. I suppose there might be women's studies programs here or there in which it might be an actual thing, but I haven't heard of it.

They don't even know what a trigger warning is. It's not something that makes you feel sad or uncomfortable, they are used to help prevent reactionary responses in people with a very similar incident in their past that relates to the subject material.

If they want to see a real one, go to my uncle's house and set off a firecracker without telling him. When he finally comes out of the basement though, he's gonna seriously kick your ass.

"your fee fees could be hurt by his and this"

This is sexist because it can easily be misspelled as "his." Fucking patriarchy.

Finally a teacher that understands we all interpret things differently. Always hated playing guess the teachers interpretation.

I always found the idea to be bullshit because it puts so much weight and responsibility on the teacher - if I warn you once about something but then miss something else I'll get in shit... it isn't the instructors responsibility to know about everything that might trouble a student and have to be responsibile for clearly marking it out and warning people.

That way of thinking, it relieves one of personal responsibility completely, you'd have the ability to blame anything you found offensive on the instructor.

Thats why you always warn about everything.

Just say "evrything ever we do in this class might offend someone"

And be dont with it.

That was very well written and made excellent sense.

Thanks OP!

In the Life manual: "Trigger warning. Not everyone will agree with you. Deal with it."

I wanna make a syllabus with books like Lolita, The Rosy Crucifixion trilogy consisting of Sexus, Plexus, and Nexus, and The Turner Diaries just so I could watch their tiny little heads explode.

Given how many pedos there are in the SJW/triggersaurus crowd, including Lolita probably wouldn't be an issue for them. :^)
