Minuscule amounts. This comes up all the time. Unless you want to literally unplug every device in your house that has any kind of LCD display or LED light or standby mode every time you're done using it, then you might save a few bucks a month.

I can't speak for why the appliances like the washer need so much idle draw but most consumer electronics draw a couple watts for LEDs, LCD displays, or to remember custom settings, which is why you don't have to adjust the color on your TV every time you turn it on.

I mean, I guess they have a point. If you made a habit of unplugging everything when you weren't using it, you would see an energy savings. The question you have to ask yourself is how much is your time worth and how willing are you to put up with the inconvenience of dealing with it and any consequences it might bring, like losing your device settings constantly. The savings are going to be single digits a month at most.

You'd save magnitudes more money by simply replacing all of your household light bulbs with LED models.

Lived with guy that flipped the main breaker on the way out of the house. After having unplugged everything that could be unplugged and turning off the sockets.

Wanted to do the same thing at night too.

That depends.

Battery powered devices are designed specifically to use as little power as possible; many simply disconnect the battery from the circuitry.

However, anything that is plugged into the wall is probably consuming more power than you think it is.

Many plugged-in devices use transformers to convert line voltages into voltages more suitable for the device. These transformers will continue to consume power even if the device is turned off.

Here's a pretty good article on it by the U.S. Department of Energy.

You shouldn't unplug it to save energy you should unplug it because it is spying on you.
